Cairo Subway Deterioration

What a pity, the Cairo subway has been deteriorating over the past few years. Just read the following from Al Gomhoriya (http://www.algomhuria.net.eg) newspaper...

I remember when i first used it, it was in 1995 when i joined college (i think subways in Cairo started in 1987 or 1988). It was clean fast and on time. It was one of the few things that were really good in Cairo back then.
I have a lot of memories with my university friends in the subway especially in the first year at college.
I remember back then i was really fat and one time i sat near a friend of mine known as Mr.Tita. I kept making awful jokes and he kindly kept laughing. After we got to know each other well he told me that he hated those jokes and that he almost suffocated because i was too fat but he didn't want to hurt my feelings so he kept quiet....lol

Mood: Laughing :)

I remember in the first year in college, actually the first week there was an accident in the subway where two trains collided ... That day I walked for two subway stations one of them was on the actual rails. Funny thing is the tickets are twice the price now. LE 1.25 I think.

In fact, some NDP-holic guys come to our blog(s) and say: why are you so pessmistic? why do u always talk about the negative aspects and forget about the achievements, like Toshka, the subway, women posts in judiciary system?

I reply to who claim realism with one question : Are these things a means or a end in itself?

If they are means which will lead to an end, so they should have been properly maintained, so the ultimate end (better life) is achieved..

If the nice guys said that those things are end in themselves.. close the dialouge, because it is futile to talk with people like these..

When these things are looked-upon as ends not means, no one could make best use of.. and all the tax-payers money spent on them have been through in the sea!
