The Pope Criticizes Islam

Pope Benedict XVI

Wooooooow! things are going to turn really ugly now!

The new (relatively new) Pope lashed a couple of offending sentences about Islam as a Reilgion.
To check what he said go to:

Here we are trying to fix what terrorists and idiotic international foreign affair decisions (of some nations) have spoiled, and now we as muslims have to face this type of talk.

Mmm, lets see...

"In his lecture, the Pope quoted, among others, the 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologos who wrote that Mohammad had brought things "only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

Lets put aside the obvious shallow knowledge about Islam that seems to be a trend in the non-muslim world because of western media (check a maybe relevant post Jews And Media ), and lets talk from another angle...

It is strange that the Pope (being who he is) simplely forgot a fact that Mohammad (PBUH) was not the only Prophet who had to go for war to protect his faith and nation.
Prophets Moses and David went to war to. Isn't that mentioned in the Pope's Bible???!!! of course it is!
Then, why is it so that only Islam is blamed for giving people (muslims) the right to protect themselves and their religion while God gave other prophets that same right????? think of it!

He also said, "Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul..."
Ok then, if that is what he really wants to say, then why didn't he also say the same thing about Judaism (Moses and David)??

Another thing, Didn't Europe with the blessing of the Pope (back then) go for war against the Islamic world??
Europe's Christians are the ones who went to war against the Islamic world at that time. Yet, you never find anyone (muslims specially) saying "Hey, since the Pope blessed that war, then Christianity is violent and that is unlike God's nature".
Of course not to mention, we haven't heard that any Pope apologized for such an attack on the islamic world (yet jews had better treatment...apologies, forgiveness..etc.).

Come on be fair!

Finally, "At the end of his lecture, the Pope again quoted Manuel and said: "It is to this great 'logos', to this breadth of reason, that we invite our partners in the dialogue of cultures"

That is a very strange way to start "dialogue of cultures". I don't get the concept of "i'll insult you and say you make no sense. Then, we can start dialogue" as a dialogue starter!!!!!

Yes ,there are muslims (terrorists) that misuse versus in Quran. But, that does not mean that this is Islam. becuase if it was Islam, you'd find 1.3 Billion terrorist world wide!
And yes, of course there has to be dialogue between people. But for heavens sake, is this a sane way to start a dialogue??
Imagine if the Imam of Al Azhar (The most prestigious Islamic Institution in the world) said such a thing about Christians because of the Crusades. And then he says 'Oh i just want to start dialogue"... what would the world say about him and how would christians feel??

Lets just all step back and try to be fair to each other.

"Kobaaayet maya sa23a leel ragel ya waaad ya bob".

Mood: Extremely disappointed :(

How sad, as if the rift between "us" and "the others" needs to be wider! I used to admire the late Pope John Paul II because he preached peace & religious tolerance & respect.

Salaam Alaikum,

It is very disappointing that someone in a position of such influebce uses that power to be divisive. Howewver, consider the source -- let's not forget he was in Hitler's Nazi youth party.

Anyway, I pray Muslims take the high road and show just who is "civilized" ;-)
